Voter Choice Berkshires, a chapter of Voter Choice Massachusetts, will be hosting an educational and organizing meeting. All are welcome.
Voter Choice Massachusetts is the statewide movement to upgrade our voting system to ranked choice voting (RCV) for state and federal elections. The organization was founded after Maine became the first state in US history to enact RCV statewide in November 2016. Since then, Voter Choice Massachusetts has grown to over 10,000 supporters, 200 active volunteers, and seven chapters across the Commonwealth.
Our current voting system is outdated. Voters should not be pressured to choose between the “lesser of two evils”. Voters should not be worried that their vote will be thrown away or that their vote won’t count. Candidates shouldn’t be able to “spoil” the race or “split the vote” or get elected with only 30 or 40% of voter support. The people of Massachusetts deserve better. We deserve ranked choice voting.
Ranked choice voting allows you to rank the candidates on the ballot in the order you prefer them, instead of choosing just one. Ranking your choices liberates you from being forced to vote for the "lesser of two evils." It allows you to vote honestly for a candidate you truly believe in while still allowing you to vote for any front-runner as a "backup" choice. This means your vote always stays intact and never gets thrown away. This means an end to spoiler candidates and vote-splitting. This means more civil campaigns, and better public discourse. This means unifying voters behind candidates who have a true majority of support.
